Yesmin Ara

Yesmin Ara is a dedicated community leader based in the United States, known for her resilience and commitment to refugee advocacy. Originally from Myanmar, she was forced to flee due to life-threatening circumstances and spent three years underground before finding refuge in Bangladesh. There, she lived in the Kutupalong refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar, where she began her journey of service by volunteering within the community.
With a background in science from her early education in Myanmar, Yesmin went on to work with several international and humanitarian organizations, including the Center for Peace and Justice at BRAC University, IOM (International Organization for Migration), UN Women Bangladesh, and the Rohingya Women Development Forum (RWDF). Her work has spanned advocacy, women's empowerment, and humanitarian support.
Through the support of UNHCR, Yesmin was resettled in the United States, where she continues to be a passionate voice for displaced communities, using her lived experience to empower others and build bridges across cultures.
